House Bill 7016 – “An Act Providing Protection to Credit Card Holders”

Published by rudy Date posted on November 8, 2009

An Act Providing Protection to Credit Card Holders by Setting a Ceiling on Interest Rates and Surcharges and Prohibiting Hidden Penalties or Costs Imposed by Credit Card Companies, Banks, and Similar Institutions on Purchases and Cash Advances Made through Such Facility

– Puts into effect the cap on interest rates of 1% per month and penalty charges of 1% per month as ruled by the Supreme Court.

– Prohibits credit card companies from charging fees for exceeding the cardholder’s credit limit. Such fees are unconscionable since the credit card companies themselves authorized individual transactions which resulted in cardholders exceeding their credit limits.
