CEBU CITY – Trade Union Congress Party-List (TUCP) Representative Raymond Democrito C. Mendoza called for stronger cooperation between communities and the Philippine National Police to promote peace and order in the country.

In a speech delivered before the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM)-Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 7, Rep. Mendoza stressed the weight of involving the civil society in promoting personal interaction of the PNP personnel with responsible members of the society under the concept of police-community partnership in law enforcement.

Rep. Mendoza was invited to speak during the commemoration of the 14th Police-Community Relations Month held at the Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr., Cebu City yesterday, June 6, 2009.

Fueled with patriotism, “it is high-time that every citizen of this country involves itself to the PNP’s thrusts and imbues itself with paramount respect to the laws of the land, dedication to public safety and orderliness, and love for peace,” the solon asserted.

The cooperation, according to the representative, “will combat the ambiguities that we face in law enforcement, crime prevention, peace and order maintenance, and the safeguarding of public safety which has been left hanging and fluid over the past decades.”

The Party-list Representative however cautioned the PNP personnel, it must first earn the people’s respect by strictly upholding its mandate “to serve and to protect” through PNP’s core values: service, honor and justice.

The programs of the Police-Community Relations Group of the NAPOLCOM-PNP is anchored at bringing the police force closer to the civil society and awaken the latter’s sense of social responsibility and instill to them that they are keyplayers in the battle for peace and order.

The 14th Police-Community Relations Month Celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 764 declaring July as the PCR Month with the theme “Bayanihan ng Pulis at Mamamayan, Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaayusan”.
