MANILA, Philippines – Five laborers were taken to the hospital after they had difficulty breathing while sealing the cracks inside an underground water tank in Pasig City yesterday.

Richard Rebato, Michael Mendoza, Raul Mendoza and Mel Sapini were later declared out of danger by doctors at Medical City hospital.

The fifth worker, Edgar de Jesus, was sent home after he said nothing was wrong with him.

Chief Superintendent Benjardi Mantele, Eastern Police District director, said the five were hired to repair the cracks in the water tank in Mega Plaza building in Ortigas Ave.

The five workers had difficulty breathing because the water tank lacked ventilation and the sealant they used had an objectionable smell, he added.– Non Alquitran, Philippine Star
