The TUCP Party-List has called the Bureau of Customs incompetent and inutile in stamping out the rampant sugar smuggling that hurts the local sugar industry, most especially the poor sugar farmers and producers, a press release from the group said.
Sugar Regulatory Administrator Bernardo Trebol said recently that he may resign if the Bureau of Customs fails to arrest and prosecute sugar smugglers.
It was reported recently that four Binondo traders had been caught with smuggled sugar and the matter has been referred to the Bureau of Customs for action but, so far, there has been no feedback yet on what the bureau has done, the press release said. –The Visayan Daily Star
