CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga , Philippines – Two construction workers were buried alive when heavy rains triggered a mudslide on a mountainside in Olongapo City Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The fatalities, identified as Gilbert Dalisay, 38, and Ronnie Lastimada, 22, were buried in 10 to 12 feet of mud.
A third worker, Edmar Vijiga, 19, survived the tragedy. He was rushed to the James Gordon Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Reports said Dalisay tried to rescue Lastimada, but was himself hit by the cascading mud and stones. –Ric Sapnu and Bebot Sison Jr. (The Philippine Star)
