CEBU, Philippines – The Department of Education confirmed Wednesday that teachers shall be entitled to Proportional Vacation Leave (PVL) relative to their service during vacation time.
DepEd Region 7 Director Recaredo Borgonia said teachers who have rendered continuous service for school year 2009-2010 from June 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010, shall be entitled to 74 days Proportional Vacation Leave from April 1 to June 13, 2010 as mandated by DepEd Memorandum No. 195, s. 2010.
“Considering that the proportional vacation pay of teachers will end on June 13, 2010 and June 14, 2010 has been declared a holiday, the first day of service of teachers is June 15, 2010, however, in the exigency of service, teachers may be required to report to school starting June 1, 2010, for early enrolment with the opening of classes,” Borgonia said.
Borgonia said teachers who are required to report to school starting June 1, 2010 and those who are requested to attend the staff development program before the first day of service may be entitled to service credits subject to the provisions of DepEd Order 53, s. 2003.
He said teachers should follow procedures in the grant of service credits.
The head of office or school should be the one to recommend approval of a request to render vacation service and the Schools Division Superintendent should be the one to approve or disapprove it.
If the reason for the request is not among those cited above, Borgonia said the request should be acted upon by the Regional Director if the activity is region-wide and should be acted upon by the DepEd central office through the regional director if the activity is department-wide.
For attendance or participation in DepEd –wide programs and projects, the Central office shall make necessary issuances on the grant of vacation service credits. Teachers are also required to submit an accomplished report and a duly signed DTR or CS 48 after completion of the vacation service.
“Principals of teachers who are attending staff development programs are required to submit seminar or workshop or training design and outputs duly approved by the Schools Division Superintendent concerned,” Borgonia said. (FREEMAN NEWS)
