MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Edgardo Angara is refiling in the 15th Congress the Philippine Respiratory Therapy Bill in response to the rising health concerns involving the respiratory system.

Respiratory therapy, an allied health profession, specializes in the assessment and treatment of respiratory and cardiovascular pathologies.

Respiratory therapists are involved in the treatment of chronic lung problems like asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and more acute multi-systemic problems due to other pathological conditions including heart attacks and stroke.

Acute bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, and pulmonary illness are a few of the respiratory problems rampant in the Philippines.

Angara, Senate committee on science and technology chairman, has filed Senate Bill 3139 that seeks to create a Professional Regulatory Board of Respiratory Therapy under the administrative supervision and control of the Professional Regulation Commission. –Christina Mendez (The Philippine Star)
