19 law schools without bar passers face closure

At least 19 law schools may face closure by the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) as not even a single student from their schools passed the recent bar exams.

Records from Ched show there are currently 118 law schools in the country.

Of the number, 19 schools did not have students who passed the board exams.

“Malaking implication ito sa law profession. We have to be strict. Kailangan i-maintain ang quality,” lawyer Julito Vitriolo, Ched executive director, said.

Vitriolo added they may close the facilities or the schools if they see that the schools lack the facilities or there is lack of qualified professors.

He said last year they already ordered the closure of 11 law schools or schools that taught law subjects when not a single of their students passed.

Vitriolo said they are willing to do it again to preserve the quality of education among law students.

Ched issued a moratorium as well where they had not issued a permit to schools to offer new courses of law.

Earlier, Ched had announced more than half of the 494 nursing
schools in the country faced closure if none of their students would still pass the nursing licensure exams by 2013.  –Jason Faustino, Daily Tribune
