MANILA, Philippines – Most college graduates in the country fail to pass licensure examinations, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported yesterday.
PRC data showed that while the number of examinees has been steadily rising for the past six years, the number of those who pass board exams continue to drop.
Based on PRC data, 1,421,464 examinees took various licensure examinations from 2004 to 2008.
But 903,202 of them flunked, posting a dismal 36.4 percent national passing rate during this period.
In 2009, PRC posted a 35.2 percent passing rate with only 110,429 successful examinees from the total 314,031 board takers.
For the first half of 2010, a total of 68,104 examinees also flunked board examinations.
Among those who want to become licensed professionals, custom brokers recorded the lowest passing rate of 20.9 percent followed by certified public accountants with 26.9 percent passing rate. –Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star)
