MANILA, Philippines – Police believe drunkenness led to the death of a laborer who fell from the sixth floor of a building under construction in Ermita, Manila yesterday.

The body of Delfredo Cabug-os, 28, single, a stay-in worker of Millenium Erectors Corp., was discovered by his co-workers at the ground floor of the Manila Residences Bocobo building being constructed along Jorge Bocobo street in Ermita at around 6 a.m.

Detective Amelito Lopez said the victim might have fallen from the sixth floor of the building – his slippers and a cup of noodles were found near the edge of the floor.

Police said the victim, who had been working at the construction site for almost two months, had a drinking session with five of his co-workers at a nearby store the night before his death.

The workers said the victim may have chosen to sleep at the open area on the sixth floor to cool off instead of going to their barracks, which is on the same floor. –Nestor Etolle (The Philippine Star)
