Incorruptible’ lady traffic enforcers deployed

MANILA, Philippines – Female traffic enforcers were deployed by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) across the country’s roads and thoroughfares starting Monday.

The LTO believes that the move will discourage erring motorists from either attempting to bribe the traffic enforcers or engage them in an argument.

The agency deployed 20 lady traffic enforcers in Metro Manila while 80 others were put into action in the Visayas region.

They are tasked to manage traffic for 2 hours for a single day every week, the LTO said.

Antonio Gaca, LTO enforcement director, said the lady traffic enforcers underwent training for the job.

“Huwag ninyong babastusin ang aming mga enforcer. Mga well-trained iyan. Igalang niyo at igagalang din naming kayo,” he said.

“(Do not abuse our enforcers. They are well-trained. Respect them and we will respect you.)”

Lady traffic enforcer Anabelle Vanalea said some motorists are abusive. “Meron po talagang iba talaga na pasaway. Pero kailangan po naming talaga maging matigas, eh. Kasama po sa trabaho naming iyon,” she added.

“(There are some who are really stubborn. However, we have to be firm. It’s part of our job.)”

Another traffic enforcer, Juliana Gualvez, warned erring motorists that they will not accept bribes.

“Huwag magbibigay, kasi lalong darami iyung violations,” she explained.

“(Do not give bribes because your violations will increase.)” – Alex Santos and Jun Niño, ABS-CBN News –abs-cbnNEWS.com
