The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) is supporting the Nurses Assigned in Rural Areas (NARS) program of the government. This programs aims to provide employment for nurses amidst the financial crisis the world is currently experiencing.
This employment opportunity is unique and more beneficial to nurses because they will not only be given a stipend of P8,000/month but they will also undergo a training program developed by the Board of Nursing (BON). The said training program will be done with in the three months in a hospital and another three months in the community. A certificate of completion will be given at the end of six months.
Dr. Teresita Irigo-Barcelo, PNA national president, said that “the NARS program showcases a model for GO-NGO partnership.” The government agencies involved in this project – DOLE, DOH, PRC-Board of Nursing, LGUs and non-government organizations, PNA, Association of Deans of Philippine College of Nursing (AD-PCN), and National League of Philippine Government Nurses (NLPGN), are collaborating in the planning and implementation of the program from the national level down to the municipal level.
The NARS program will deploy to 1,000 poor municipalities a total of P10,000 nurses for year. Visit the DOLE website www.nars.dole.gov.ph for the online application.
