Around 50 suspected armed members of the New People’s Army (NPA), attacked Victorias Milling Company Inc. (VMC) and damaged property worth around P600,000, the police said.

According to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO), the incident took place at around 11:30pm on Tuesday, when unidentified armed men allegedly burned the electric transformer of VMC’s Malogo Pump House in Hacienda Santa Cruz, Barangay 13, Victorias City.

Police chief inspector Jefferson Descallar reported that the security guards were disarmed but no injuries or casualties were reported.

The police said the assailants took a handheld transceiver radio and shot at an electric transformer.

Police superintendent Roderick Alba arrived on the scene at around 2:30 am on Wednesday. Eleven empty caliber 5.56mm shells and three gasoline container cups were recovered.

Alba said they would conduct an investigation to identify the perpetrators.

He also directed all police chiefs in Negros to “intensify intelligence networks and enhance the conduct of police visibility and checkpoint operations.”

The VMC is an agro-industrial complex in Victorias City, Negros Occidental. It primarily engages in integrated raw and refined sugar manufacturing.

The company also has subsidiaries involved in fish canning, real estate, sugar sacks manufacturing and packaging, and golf course and restaurant operations. –VVP, GMANews.TV
