MANILA, Philippines – A backhoe operated by a private contractor damaged pipes of the Maynilad Water Services along EDSA in Quezon City before dawn yesterday, disrupting the supply of water to around 6,000 households for around eight hours.
Maynilad spokesperson Bim Ocampo said the contractor was doing construction work for a government project when the backhoe hit the pipes, which supply water to Barangays Balon Bato, Apolinario Samson and Bahay Toro, at around 2 a.m.
Ocampo said the water supply was restored at around 10:30 a.m.
“We are now estimating the damage incurred to the company,” Ocampo said, adding that there is a need to talk to the private contractor and discuss the extent of damage and what the contractor can shoulder. –Rhodina Villanueva (The Philippine Star)
