MANILA, Philippines – The plastic and glass manufacturing plants of diversifying conglomerate San Miguel Corporation have settled their labor-management conflicts.
The labor union of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation has withdrawn their notice of strike after a successful mediation efforts, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a statement last week.
A deadlock on the collective bargaining talks involving the Manila Plastics Plant of the company was resolved after an economic package of P19.9 million benefitting 115 employees was agreed upon under the supervision of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board.
San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation, which comprises several glass and plastics plants nationwide, is the country’s largest packaging company and the market leader for glass bottles, roll-on pilfer-proof caps, aluminum cans, plastic crates and pallets, and cartons.
The company services the beverage, food, pharmaceutical, personal, and household care and industrial application sectors in the domestic and international markets. It has business alliances with various foreign companies in the Philippines, Japan, and China.
Officials of the San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Specialists inc. Employees Union–Manila Plastics Plant–PTGWO agreed on a salary increase ranging from P1,000 to P1,250 per month over the next 3 years, on top of the P65,000 lump sum for each covered employees.
Retirement benefits and provisions for emergency leaves are included in the agreement, which takes effect from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012. –abs-cbnNEWS.com
