MANILA, Philippines – Three students from Grace Christian College bagged the championship trophy in the Junior Division of the 4th International Young Mathematicians Convention (IYMIC) held in Lucknow, India over the weekend.

Kate Andrea Bonamy, John Cedric Laohoo, and Shaun Wesley Que also tied as second runner-up with St. Paul Girls High School of London in the separate math quiz in the competition.

The Philippine delegation to the competition was trained by the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines.

“This is another spectacular triumph of our students, showing that Filipinos are also excellent in math if given the proper training and motivation,” said guild president Dr. Simon Chua.

Thirteen countries other than the Philippines participated in the competition: Bhutan, England, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

The competition was organized by the City Montessori Inter-College-Gomti Nagar, the Office of the Uttar Pradesh Governor, and Lucknow University.

The competition was divided into two divisions, the Junior Division for High School students from Grade 7 to Grade 10, and Senior Division for High School Students from Grade 11 to Grade 12.
