MALACAÑANG on Sunday announced that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was successful in meeting its target to help at least 1 million Filipinos through its conditional cash transfer (CCT) program. “We are very glad that the DSWD has achieved its goal of reaching out to one million beneficiaries for 2010 under its 4Ps program also known as the conditional cash transfer program,” deputy spokesman Abigail Valte told Radyo ng Bayan.

The CCT program is part of the DSWD’s P29.2-billion Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Valte, during a Radyo ng Bayan interview, said that Malacañang is happy for the success of the 4Ps, which aims to provide financial assistance to poor Filipinos.

She added that Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman has been conducting sorties in various areas of the country to achieve the CCT coverage of 2.3 million Filipinos for next year.

The CCT program is part of the Aquino government’s efforts to meet the targets set forth in the Millennium Development Goals before the year 2015. –CRIS G. ODRONIA, Manila Times
