New UAE policy forces Pinoys to come home

Published by rudy Date posted on January 14, 2009

Thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in United Arab Emirates (UAE) are likely to return home soon not because of the economic crisis but due to the new immigration policy in UAE, the Department of Labor and Employment reported yesterday.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said the government of UAE has imposed a new immigration policy requiring foreign migrants, including Filipino with expiring visas to immediately renew their visas.

POEA advised the Filipino workers who used tourist visas to enter the UAE, to immediately return home before the expiration of their visa to avoid getting stranded in the exit points. – Mayen Jaymalin, Pia Lee-Brago, Philippine Star
