Secretary Joel Villanueva, Director General of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) forges partnership with Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and Informatics through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) during his visit to Cebu on September 29, 2010. This is in line with Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III’s pronouncement on Private-Public Partnership (PPP).
The MOA binds the three parties to implement a Gender and Development (GAD) Project for female out-of-school youth (OSY) dubbed as Equal Employment Opportunities for the Out-of-School Youth. It is a P1.2 million-project aimed at equipping the woman OSYs with sufficient skills to increase their employability in the IT industry and to enable them to build a better future for themselves and their families.
Under this project, Sec. Villanueva said, PEZA will provide financial assistance amounting to P600,000 for the maintenance of the computer amenities of Informatics that will be used during the 12-month training.
For its part, TESDA would provide a counterpart fund of P600,000 from its Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP).
PEZA shall identify and screen the female OSYs who will undergo the trainings from the barangays in the vicinity of the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) while Informatics would provide the necessary facilities and personnel for the training in accordance with TESDA-Board approved training regulations.
“An amount of P4,000 is allocated for each of the 300 female OSYs,” Sec. Villanueva noted.
