P75 wage hike in Metro pushed

Published by rudy Date posted on March 7, 2011

MANILA, Philippines – Labor group Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) has filed for a P75 across-the-board wage increase in Metro Manila, citing the string of increases in oil and food prices as well as utility rates and fares.

If approved, the petition will raise the minimum wage in the National Capital Region to P479.

“The wage increases– P20 in May 2008 and P22 in July 2010– have been overtaken by continuing increases in the prices of petroleum products, transport fares and in basic goods and services,” said TUCP in a statement.

“This amount of P75 daily is needed by all employees and workers… [It] will enable workers to contribute to rising local demand for goods and services, and to further sustain economic recovery,” it added. –abs-cbnNEWS.com
