ALU-TUCP seeks P75-increase in daily wages

THE Associated Labor Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) is set to file a petition for another round of wage increase in Northern Mindanao before the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).

Nicandro Borja, vice president of ALU-TUCP for Northern Mindanao, said the labor group is seeking a P75-increase in daily minimum wages in Northern Mindanao to answer for the rapid increase in the prices of basic commodities.
“Nagsige na og taas ang presyo sa basic commodities og gikinahanglan na nga mangayo og another round of wage increase for minimum wage earners in the private sector,” he said.

Borja said RTWPB should immediately look into the petition of ALU-TUCP and consider the request a priority.

“Nagsaka na tanan palaliton apil ang pletehan,” he said, adding workers are getting desperate.

ALU-TUCP is the biggest labor organization in the country. Currently, the minimum wage for Northern Mindanao is P256.

Borja said if the present daily pay of a worker is P256 and this is multiplied by 26 days, the worker would only receive P6,656 per month. “That’s definitely not enough.” Lito Rulona, Gold Star Daily
