CEBU, Philippines – A 30-year-old carpenter was electrocuted while his companion was injured after an accident while they were constructing a house in Barangay Poblacion, Santa Fe Monday afternoon.

The fatality, Rolito Esgana, a mason, did not make it alive at Bantayan District Hospital due to severe burns he sustained while his companion, a certain “Nonoy” Escaran only suffered slight burns and is already out of danger.

Police investigation revealed that at around 2:40 in the afternoon, the two were working on the fence of the constructed residential house owned by a certain “Ron- Ron” Tibay. While they were lifting and transferring the welding machine from one place to another, Esgana allegedly lost his balance and the two fell on the ground together with the unplugged welding machine.

The machine allegedly hit Esgana’s right leg causing his electrocution while Escaran sustained slight burns in his body.

Their fellow carpenters rushed them to Bantayan District Hospital where Esgana was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

As of the moment, Escaran is still confined and recuperating in the said hospital. – (FREEMAN)
