DOLE to draft new rules for bus firms

Manila, Philippines – Bus drivers can look forward to shorter working hours and much better working conditions in the coming months.

In an effort to curb the rising number of road accidents, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will come out with new regulations on the employment of bus drivers.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said DOLE has set up a team that would conduct a study on the working conditions of bus drivers that would serve as basis for the new employment regulations.

She said part of the study would be the proposal of the Metro Manila Development Authority to adopt a fixed wage rate and additional incentives for bus drivers.

“ We also need to study the different dimensions of their problems. The idea is if there will be a change in the system of fixing their wage, then there should be non-diminution of existing benefits,” Baldoz said.   –Mayen Jaymalin The Philippine Star
