MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment’s (DoLE’s) National Skills Registry System (SRS) has gained ground in Pangasinan with the municipality of Malasiqui as its next target for a databank of manpower supply.
This was sealed in the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) among Pangasinan 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas, Malasiqui Mayor Armando Domantay, Sr. and DoLE Region 1 Director Henry John Jalbuena at the Arenas Civic Center, Pangasinan.
The MoU, which is the fourth to be signed since December 2010, has furthered the institutionalization of the SRS in local government units.
The first was signed by the City of San Fernando (La Union), followed by the municipality of Rosales (Pangasinan), and then, municipality of Sudipen (La Union).
Jalbuena said the SRS is envisioned to enhance the databank of manpower supply with their corresponding skills and qualifications for ready access of employment service clients. “The SRS aims to strengthen the current system of Register of labor demand from employers that shall be available to both jobseekers and employers through the existing Phil-jobnet,’’ he explained.
“This social pact between the DoLE and the municipal government of Malasiqui foreruns labor mismatch problems, which is foremost in President Benigno S. Aquino III’s 22-point labor platform and policy reforms,” Jalbuena said.
The municipal government has committed to mobilize barangay officials and personnel to assist in the implementation of SRS activities such as purposive data gathering, encoding of manpower information, storage and updating of register and preparation of reports.
Jalbuena said the SRS will ensure the availability of relevant labor market information needed to effectivity facilitate the employment of those unemployed and assist business establishments in sourcing qualified manpower to fill their existing vacancies.
The job fair offered a total of 1,546 local job opportunities from 15 employers across the region. –Manila Bulletin
