120 Pinoy illegal workers nabbed in Dubai — DFA

Dubai police on Wednesday arrested 120 Filipinos who were learned to be illegally working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

The DFA quoted the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai as saying the Filipinos have been held at the Al Aweer Detention Center.

The Filipinos had attempted to work as service crew in Dubai Mall, Dubai World Trade Center, and Al Ghurair’s malls, the DFA said.

The consulate officials are now investigating the incident in close coordination with the Dubai police and immigration officials, according to Philippine Consul General to Dubai Benito Valeriano.

Valeriano said those found illegally working in Dubai will be deported to the Philippines. Those who can prove they have permission to work there will be released, he added.

Reports have it that some Filipinos go the UAE on a visit visa to look for a job. They eventually apply for an employment visa once they land a job.

The DFA warned Filipinos who have intentions to go to Dubai to work — but are carrying visit visas — that the Dubai Immigration is regularly on the look out for foreigners working without the necessary permit.

“Those who will be arrested will be deported immediately and banned from entering UAE by the immigration authorities,” the DFA pointed out. — JE, GMA News
