BACOOR, Cavite, July 13 (PIA) — Mayor Strike Revilla emphasized the important role of barangay captains in identifying incidence of child labor and illegal recruitment of minors in their respective areas as he underscored the need to equip the local officials on the salient features of Republic Act 9231 to effectively protect children from the worst forms of child labor and prevent illegal recruitment and human trafficking.

Revilla made these remarks during the recent seminar initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for barangay captains held at the ABC Hall in Barangay Talaba 7, this town.

Likewise, the mayor supported DOLE’s campaign on the elimination of child labor not only in Cavite but also in the whole archipelago being the current national president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines and president of Cavite Mayors League respectively.

During the activity, DOLE CPO Director Milagros R. Mata discussed the DOLE’s initiatives on employment and other programs and projects that can be availed of to alleviate the incidence of child labor in the local communities.

On the other hand, the plight of children who are made to work under different circumstances, and what the local officials and its partners can do to alleviate the situation was also discussed.
A total of 58 participants and other program partners attended the said activity. (CPG/Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/DOLE-Cavite)
