DOLE Cavite conducted advocacy on child labor in Rosario, Cavite on June 23, 2011. The activity initiated by DOLE and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) was attended by barangay officials, representatives from MSWD, PNP , Municipal Business Permit and Licensing Office of Rosario.

The activity gave an overview on the situation of child labor in the Philippines and discussion on Republic Act No. 9231 otherwise known as the Anti-Child Labor Law by Mr. Edwin T. Hernandez of DOLE Cavite.

The major Issue raised during the open forum was the incidence of child labor identified in Rosario. The worst form of child labor identified was pedicab driving by minors. Barangay Bagbag and Silangan I considered it as worst form in nature because of the vulnerability of minors to road mishap and accident.

The masterlisting of children shall be facilitated by the MSWD of Rosario and the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) shall be reactivated to strengthen programs for children within their communities.

DOLE CPO Director Milagros R. Mata pointed out the important role of barangay officials in the effective implementation of pro-active programs and enforcement of barangay ordinances and executive orders on child’s protection and child labor-free Cavite.
