MANILA, Philippines – Five million jobs are expected to become available in the next five years because of government efforts to enable industries to create more jobs.

“Based on the Philippine Development Plan, we see an average of over a million new jobs annually and that means more than five million new employment for the next five years of the Aquino administration,” said Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz.

Sectors expected to create more jobs include agriculture, forestry, and business process outsourcing (BPO).

In the manufacturing sector, the electronics industry is expected to create new jobs.

“The government is now closely monitoring these industries that would be the top job generators in the next years to ensure continued growth,” Baldoz pointed out.

The labor department yesterday launched a program that would encourage employers to adopt environmentally friendly workplaces and create green jobs, or work that reduces the use of energy and promotes sustainable business strategies. –Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star)
