TESDA shares tech-voc expertise to ASEAN neighbors

TAGUIG CITY, August 10 (PIA) — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has partnered with a vocational institution in Japan to share their expertise on technical vocational education to its neighboring ASEAN countries.

TESDA director general Joel Villanueva said the agency has gained a reputation abroad for its tech-voc courses “because of the relevance of our curriculum and more importantly because of the quality of graduates we produce.”

During the jointly conducted ASEAN-Japan Collaboration Program on Human Resource Development focused on “Skills Promotion in an Enterprise-base Set-up” held recently, TESDA partnered with the Japan Vocational Ability Development Association (Javada) to provide technical assistance to eight government and business sector representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

“We hope we can continue to be a good model for our ASEAN neighbors which are enhancing their own tech voc institutions as an alternative to formal education,” Villanueva said.

He said that with the spiraling cost of college education, the tech voc education TESDA offers has become a better option, “a choice many students have taken to hone their skills for future jobs.” (TESDA/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
