Labor union leader gunned down in Cavite

Camp Vicente Lim, La­guna – A member of a labor union was gunned down by unidentified men yesterday morning while driving his car along the national highway in Imus, Cavite, police said

Senior Superintendent Fidel Posada, Cavite police director identified the victim as Gerry Cristobal, a coordinator for the Public Employees Service Office (PESO) in Rosario, Cavite and an active union leader at the Yasaki-EMI, a manufacturer of wire harness for cars.

According to reports, around 8 a.m., Cristobal was cruising along the Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Anabu I-B in Imus aboard his Mitsu­bishi Lancer (PKL-603) when he was waylaid by at least four gunmen.

After the shooting, Cris­tobal’s vehicle swerved into a gasoline station and smashed into a parked Toyota Corolla. The men inside the car were unhurt in the collision.

The assailants escaped after the incident aboard their Toyota Innova without plate number going towards unknown direction.

Police have yet to determine the motive of the killing while a follow-up operation is underway to determine the identities of the suspects.
