Demand for call center agents still on the rise

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said demand for call center agents continue to grow in the Philippines.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, as such, urged students, fresh graduates, and workers to enhance their communication skills to have better employment opportunities in the growing business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

According to Baldoz, latest data from the DOLE’s Phil-JobNet system, the government’s main jobs-and-skills matching online portal, consistently affirmed that opportunities for call center agents remain on top among local job opportunities.

There are currently almost 14,000 job-skills matching opportunities for call center agents in the system, topping a list of the top 50 vacancies posted by various industries.

The Labor chief, however, said prospective workers should not only train to be call center agents because “there are also numerous options for gainful opportunities available in the local economy for appropriately-skilled persons.”

In a report reaching Baldoz, Bureau of Local Employment Director Ma. Criselda Sy said that there are presently a total of 89,684 vacancies of all types posted by employers in the Phil-JobNet, alongside 7,753 skills-for-hires. –ROMMEL C. LONTAYAO REPORTER, Manila Times
