A college professor of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is facing charges of sexual harassment before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office after one of her female students lodged a complaint at the Manila Police District Station 8 Women’s and Children’s Concern Division (WCCD) in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The complainant was identified as Jizelle 18, third year college student and a resident of 100-R Howard St., Cubao, Quezon City, and the suspect as Joseph Aranas, 40, a professor of General Statistics and a resident of Makati City.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the sexual harassment took place around 6 p.m. last November 12 on the 6th floor of the PUP main on Anona Street, Sta. Mesa, Manila.

PO3 Thelma Zamodio of WCCD disclosed the victim had failing grades under the class of the suspect.

She was told to buy books to complete the project requirements and if ever she would like to talk regarding her failing grades the suspect advised her to talk to him in private.

The victim obeyed the professor’s advice to remain after the class. It was at this point the professor allegedly carried out his lustful desire by fondling the victim’s breast and organ.

Shocked by the behavior displayed by the professor, the victim narrated her experience to her family who accompanied her to the police station to lodge a complaint against Aranas. –Pat C. Santos , Daily Tribune
