MANILA, Philippines—Sixty women, 19 of them minors, were rescued from prostitution by the National Bureau of Investigation in a raid on a Parañaque club at the start of the month.

In a report submitted this week, NBI Anti-Human Trafficking Division chief Dante B. Bonoan charged that Area 51 KTV Entertainment Club on Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque was fronting as a prostitution den.

After receiving a tip from the International Justice Mission, the NBI discovered in surveillance operations that the club employed women as nude dancers and sex workers.

The NBI proceeded with the raid on May 5, after an operative posed as a customer and was approached by a floor manager offering two prostitutes for P3,000.

Out of the 60 women who were rescued, 19 were confirmed minors, Bonoan said.

The club’s floor managers are now facing charges of trafficking and child abuse at the Department of Justice.

The minors have been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Bonoan said. –Jaymee T. Gamil, Philippine Daily Inquirer
