Pampanga, June 8 (PIA) — “Health and safety will not come about by waving a magic wand, it requires workers to be equipped with the necessary know-how and expertise so as to change the way things are done at the workplace.”
This was bared by Department of Labor and Employment Region 3 (DOLE 3) Regional Director Raymundo Agravante during the 2nd North and Central Luzon Joint Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Summit 2012 held here with the theme “Strengthening Linkages for the Best Practices in OSH.”
Agravante explained that “management should be a willing partner to this endeavor” and says that “everyone has a role to play in making workplaces as safe and healthy as possible.”
“This summit will further strengthen the partnership between our agency and stakeholders involved here to combat and propagate safety and health in every workplace wherein through this we are addressing the need of every employee in their security and protection,” he added.
More than 350 safety practitioners and officers, OSH nurses, OSH physicians, and other stakeholders concerned with OSH from different industries participated in this event coming from Regions I, II, III, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The summit featured lectures on Best OSH Practices in the Manufacturing, Business Processing Outsourcing Agriculture, Mining, Construction, and Ship-building Industries; Tuberculosis Prevention and Control; DOLE Policies on OSH Legislations and Safety Practitioner Accreditation; role of Department of Health on OSH; Employees Compensation Program; Disaster Management; and Behavioral Safety.
Aside from the plenary sessions, nine companies that specializes in OSH services exhibited their products and equipments from head to toe protection and gears. These are GLJM Diversified Sales and Services Corporation; Asiong’s Industrial Products; Basic Occupational Safety Supplies; Top-Rigid Industrial Safety Supply Incorporated; FORNAX: Fire, Safety, Security; Benedict’s Safety Shoes; SANOFI Pasteur; and Windshear International Philippines Incorporated.
