World Bank: Much work remains to be done to bring about security, prosperity in Mindanao

Much work remains to be done to transform a framework agreement into a peace accord that will bring about security and prosperity in Mindanao, the Philippines’ second-largest island, the World Bank said on Monday.

At the same time, the international financial institution welcomed the signing of the Framework Agreement between President Benigno Aquino III and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

“The agreement marks an important step toward achieving peace, security and development that will benefit all Filipinos,” it said in a statement issued on Monday.

The World Bank also expressed its readiness to work with the government, the MILF, and other sectors “to intensify efforts to improve the lives of many Filipinos, particularly the poor in Mindanao, and help build the momentum for lasting peace and inclusive growth,” the same statement said. –InterAksyon.com
