BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Mining officials are still at a loss on how one of their employees died underground last July 20.

At 12:45 am of Saturday, Rodolfo Bayaoa Corsino, 49 and a member of the logistics crew of Philex Mines in Itogon, Benguet, was found dead at 1424 Level of the George Henry Shaft.

Corsino, a native of Tulana, Cagayan, was found hanging on the balance weight of the cage, which was supposed to bring him up to the surface.

Philex also reported that Corsino’s belongings were recovered at Level 778 underground.

Corsino was brought to the Sto. Nino Hospital at Philex Mines. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Mines and Geoscience Bureau allowed Philex this month to continue its Padcal mine operations despite the collapse of its tailings dam last year. –-Rappler.com, Rappler.com
