TESDA says it needs P4B to train more Pinoys

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) needs a P4.09-billion budget to train more Filipinos under its scholarship programs, its top official said Thursday.

Director General Joel Villanueva said the amount will be able to educate 610,000 students to become TESDA-certified skilled workers in seven months.

The agency targets 1.2 million to improve technical-vocational (tech-voc) qualifications through competency-based training and assessment, as well as improve the skills of 918,928 Filipino certified workers, of which 60 percent can be employed within a six-month job search period.

Its provincial and regional directors will coordinate with Local and Regional Poverty Reduction Teams to provide training to target beneficiaries in at least 407 cities and municipalities nationwide.

“Thus, even as we continue to attract new learners to our quality-assured tech-voc programs, we will help upgrade the skills of workers in the manufacturing sector,” Villanueva said in a statement. — DR/KBK, GMA News
