MANILA – Seven people in Davao Oriental died after fire hit a paint store Thursday night.

SFO2 Jessie Duarte, chief of Bureau of Fire Protection – Manay, said fire erupted at the Palomares Paint Store in Barangay Poblacion at around 11 p.m., killing employees Emily Dabaquid, Eileen Andoyo, Jessilie Cabrera, Bernadette Budadong, Jobert Tinggal, Joseph Tinggal, and Dan Abusilla.

Duarte dismissed allegations that the employees were trapped because the store was locked from the outside.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire and why the employees failed to get out of the burning establishment.

The amount of damage the fire caused has yet to be determined. Two other establishments were affected by the blaze. – report from May-May Benedicto, ABS-CBN News Davao
