Magmula noong 1984, umaabot na ngayon sa 15,774 ang kaso ng HIV/AIDS sa bansa. Pero alam niyo ba na kalahati ng nabanggit na bilang ay nanggaling sa isang rehiyon lamang?
Sa listahan ng Department of Health, may nadagdag na panibagong 491 kaso ng HIV sa bansa para lamang sa buwan ng Oktubre. Dahil dito, umakyat sa 4,072 ang kaso ng HIV/AIDS sa bansa para sa taong 2013.
Magmula 1984 hanggang Oktubre 2013, umabot na sa 15,774 ang HIV positive cases sa bansa. Karamihan sa mga nagkasakit ay mga lalaki na nakuha sa pakikipagtalik (93% o 14,648). Apat na porsiyento naman (666 kaso) sa pamamagitan ng hiraman ng injection ng mga drug users. Mayroon din nahawa sa pamamagitan ng blood transfusion (20 kaso) at pagpasa ng ina sa anak (62 kaso).
Kalahati ng 15,774 kaso o 7,318 ng mga HIV/AIDS victims ay nagmula sa National Capital Region. Sumunod na may pinakamaraming kaso (1,887) ang Region 4-A (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, at Quezon), na sinundan ng Region 7 (Central Visayas), 1,334 kaso; at Region III (Central Luzon), 1,201 kaso.
Kung noon ay nakakapagtala lamang ng 2 hanggang 36 kaso ng namamatay dahil sa sakit magmula 1984 hanggang 2010, nitong 2011 ay umakyat ang bilang ng namatay sa 69, at tumaas pa sa 177 noong 2012.
Ngayong 2013, magmula Enero hanggang Oktubre ay umabot na sa 148 taong may HIV/AIDS ang namatay. Sa naturang bilang, 95 porsiyento nito ay mga lalaki. — FRJ, GMA News
