DOLE mulls opening up jobs to foreigners, says PH ‘lacks skilled workers

DOLE hopes to forge bilateral agreements with 9 countries

Filipino companies may soon be allowed to hire foreign skilled workers.

This developed after the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) released a list of local jobs that lack skilled workers and said it is considering the possibility of offering them to foreigners.

Jobs that made it to the Labor department’s shortage list include: architects, chemical engineers, chemists, geologists, licensed librarians, medical technologists, pilots, and aircraft mechanics.

The Philippine Constitution restricts the entry of foreign professionals in the country, but the DOLE suggests the government is coming up with a policy to promote “brain gain.”

Labor rights group Kilusang Mayo Uno meanwhile said, there is no shortage of skilled workers in the Philippines. –ANC
