Truck ban will drive away investors, PEZA says

Published by rudy Date posted on March 19, 2014

MANILA – Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Deputy Director General Jay Yusingco on Wednesday said the truck ban being imposed in Manila will discourage foreign companies and investors from expanding their businesses in the country.

During the first ever trucking summit held in Manila Wednesday morning, Yusingo relayed the complaints of major companies affected by the truck ban.

According to Yusingco, the limited trips made by trucks have hampered the delivery of supplies and materials and delayed the production schedules of companies.

The Manila city government, however has maintained its stand on the truck ban.

Yusingco admitted they don’t have the figures yet on how the truck ban has affected businesses.

But based on complaints, Yusingco said the ban has affected some workers in economic zones that are dependent on production schedules.

Yusingco is hoping that a solution will be reached soon, including the use and development of ports in Batangas and Subic, to accommodate the cargo arriving in Manila. –Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News
