Taxis to start issuing receipts to passengers starting July

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said yesterday taxi drivers will start issuing receipts to their passengers starting July.

LTFRB Chairman Alberto Suansing said all legal impediments against the taxi receipts have already been settled.

The Supreme Court junked the petition of taxi groups for the scrapping of the taxi receipts, saying it is unconstitutional.

But the high court gave more credence to the argument of the government that it has the authority to make such laws.

The issuance of receipts by taxi drivers should have started last January yet but transport groups filed a petition against it.

Suansing said he expects cases of overcharging and “contracting” of passengers would be diminished.

He also appealed to passengers to immediately report to the DoTC Action Center 7890 any complaints of continued overcharging of contracting taxi drivers or those who refuse to issue receipts. –Jason Faustino, Daily Tribune
