Child labor monitoring system up

While there is no available date specific to child labor in sugarcane for the entire country, ABK3 LEAP’s baseline date in Negros Occidental documented 30,760 households with children working in sugarcane farms in 60 barangays within 15 cities/municipalities, the press release also said.

ABK3 LEAP’s Child Labor Monitoring System, is a tool that can track child labor situation in the community using the Nokia Date Gathering software installed in mobile phones, it also said.

The NDG, which has been piloted and used by over 300 organizations around the world to collect field date, enables paperless date gathering facilities a faster, real-time transmission of collected date for analysis, it said

Mayors, MSWD and Planning Officers of the 15 ABK3 LEAP covered cities/municipalities, which are Bacolod City, Cauayan, Escalante City, Kabankalan City, La Castellana, Manapla, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Sagay City, San Carlos City, Silay City, Talisay City, Toboso and Victorias City, and PCRWC members are expected to join the launching.

ABK3 LEAP project is implemented by a consortium of organizations led by World Vision Development Foundation, in partnership with ChildFund Philippines, Educational Research and Development Assistance Foundation, Inc. Sugar Industry Foundation. Inc. Community Economic Ventures, and University of the Philippines Social Action and Research for Development Foundation Inc., the press release said.

Funding for the ABK3 LEAP project was provided by the United States Department of Labor, it added.*
