After 2 days, remains of electrician found in razed factory

An electrician who was reported missing in a fire that razed a plywood factory in Lanao del Norte province last Thursday was found dead on Saturday.

The remains of the victim identified as Leonardo Corciega were found under the rubble of the burned factory in Kolambugan town, GMA Northern Mindanao’s Joane Tabique reported.

Corciega’s family had looked for him, claiming the company did not hold search-and-retrieval operations for him. The Findlay Timber Co. declined to comment, the report said.

Representatives of the company reportedly went to the electrician’s wake to extend financial assistance.

An earlier report by GMA Northern Mindanao’s Jeik Compo said the fire razed the plywood factory Thursday evening, with arson investigators estimating the damage to property at P500 million.

Investigation by the local Bureau of Fire Protection showed Corciega rushed back inside the burning factory to get something from his locker, but failed to come out.

Following the tragedy, the BFP reminded the public not to rush inside a burning structure. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
