Injury comes 2 weeks after another lineman was electrocuted
OAS, Albay, Philippines—A volunteer lineman from Dagupan City was seriously burned while helping restore power lines in Albay downed by Typhoon “Glenda” (Rammasun).
Ronel Panadigan, 32, was in the process of transferring the electric line to a newly erected power pole in Purok (Community) 3, Barangay (village) Mayao of Oas town around 9 a.m. Thursday when he was struck by a high voltage wire and sustained serious burns, Superintendent Marlo Meneses, director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Albay, said.
Panadigan, one of the employees of the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decor) that has sent a contingent to Albay to speed up power restoration, sustained third degree burns all over his body, said Chief Inspector Domingo Borigas Jr. in a text message he sent to Meneses.
Panadigan was rushed to the Josefina Belmonte Duran Memorial District Hospital in Ligao City but was later transferred to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in Daraga, Albay for further treatment.
Jane Rogando, spokesperson of the Albay Power and Energy Corporation (Apec) said they would give all the necessary medical assistance to Panadigan since he was part of the augmentation teams from different power companies and cooperatives across the country that have been helping to restore power in Albay.
On July 31, an Apec lineman from Guinobatan, Albay, identified as Mark Anthony Maraya, 29, was electrocuted while fixing power lines in the village of Tuburan in Ligao City.
Linemen from Apec and other power companies have been working round the clock to restore electricity in Albay that was downed by typhoon Glenda when it lashed the province on July 15. –Michael B. Jaucian |Inquirer Southern Luzon
