OFWs in South Korea to receive higher pay in 2015

Published by rudy Date posted on September 9, 2014

MANILA, Philippines — Overseas Filipino workers in South Korea can expect a higher pay in 2015 after the South Korea Minimum Wage Council (SKMWC) passed a 370 Korean won increase in the hourly minimum wage rate, the Department of Labor and Employment said Monday.

With this development, foreign workers in South Korea will receive an hourly salary of 5,580 Korean won from 5,210 Korean won.

According to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, the increase will translate to a monthly salary of 1,166,220 won (P49,680.972) for people working 40 hours a week.
The spike in the minimum wage covers foreign workers employed under the Employment Permit System.

The proposal of the SKMWC will be transmitted to the Minister of Employment and Labor for approval and employers will be given 10 days to raise their objections to the proposal.

The minimum wage increase will take effect from January 1 to December 31, 2015.

According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), 319 OFWs were deployed to South Korea during the first quarter of 2014. –Aries Joseph Hegina |INQUIRER.net
