MANILA, Philippines—The police are now studying if a construction company should face criminal charges after one of their workers was killed while working on a luxury hotel in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City on Sunday afternoon.

Monolith Construction and Development Corp. worker Roger Bombita, 32, from Angeles, Pampanga, died after being struck by a crane beam at 1:30 p.m. at the Shangri-La Hotel construction site on 30th Avenue in BGC, a report reaching the Southern Police District read.

According to Bombita’s fellow construction worker Daryl Herrera, they were on the 40th floor, waiting for a bucket of cement being delivered down from the 50th floor by a crane, when the crane’s beam started wiggling before suddenly swinging loose. The beam struck Bombita and sent him hurtling down to the 28th floor. He was rushed to the nearby St. Luke’s Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Last Nov. 23, three workers were injured when the street protector made of steel frames, wire mesh and netting they were standing on collapsed at the intersection of 3rd and 30th Avenues.—Jaymee T. Gamil
