4 electrocuted while digging hole

DANAO CITY, Cebu – Four men were electrocuted while working in an alleged illegal mine in Barangay Maslog, this city, last Friday.

Investigators, however, were still trying to determine if indeed the hole that the four workers were working on was indeed used for illegal mining or for a deep well.

The police are not yet closing their investigation on the real cause of the accident that took the lives of Jess Christian Miguel, 21; Dionbel Mayol, 19; Ernesto Ogabao, 49; and Amick Buenconseho.

Witnesses said the victims were digging up a hole in Barangay Maslog when the water level suddenly rose, reaching the electric outlet of the water pump they were using.

The victims were allegedly mining for gold when the incident occurred. Their relatives, however, said they were just digging a well in the area.

DOE 7 Mining Engineer Eduardo Amante, however, said there is no indication that the area is abundant in coal because the soil is made of limestone. (Mars W. Mosqueda, Jr.)
