2 miners die in Benguet tunnel

ITOGON, Benguet, Philippines – Two small-scale miners died of suffocation in a tunnel in this town on Tuesday.

Edgar Santos, 29, of Alicia town in Isabela, and Jordan Cortez, 25, of Mountain Province, were found inside the tunnel located in Barangay Tuding.

Reports said the two entered the tunnel at about 7 a.m. to attend to their tasks.

The victims’ companion, Julio Palua, was alarmed when they failed to emerge from the tunnel by around 4 p.m.
