DOLE stops Quezon irrigation project

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has stopped the construction of an irrigation project in Quezon after an accident that left two workers dead.

Investigation showed the workers were hit by a transit mixer truck at the construction site in Barangay Callejon in San Antonio town.

Probers said the contractor failed to show a construction safety and health program from the DOLE.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the DOLE-Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) office would call for a meeting with the contractor to determine if occupational safety and health regulations have been met. –Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star)
